SSM2 SOLAR SCINTILLATION MONITOR
SSM2 SOLAR SCINTILLATION MONITOR is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
SOLAR A
The SSM2 from Analog Astronomical Device is a seeing monitor for the astrophotographers who image the Sun. It measures the seeing value in arc seconds at your particular location. Knowing the atmospheric conditions helps to find the appropriate location where the seeing is more stable and it identifies the right moment to begin the image capture.
Factors Influencing Seeing Conditions:
- Atmosphere
- Location
- Time
At a given location, moments of very good seeing alternate with moments of poor seeing because of air currents, heat disturbance from object close to the telescope or even the type of soil can play a role in improving or worsening the seeing. With the solar scintillographer, you can determine when to begin your capture in period of low turbulence.
Advantages of using an SSM2 Solar Scintillation Monitor
- You get to know the seeing and can decide when to trigger the camera.
- Memory management (laptop).
- Videos with poor seeing can be deleted immediately.
- Changes in seeing for long-term sequences. Seeing analyses of sites over the seasons.
Data analysis
In the image below is an example of the data captured while analysing the atmospherically seeing during a session 5 hours long.
The graph above shows good seeing at the far left in the morning. Occasional spikes are caused by scattering of the measured values and clouds passing by.
In the afternoon the seeing degraded showing large scattering.
Software
The scintillation monitor includes the new SSM3 Visualization Software.
Connection
The box can be attached to the telescope with Velcro strips.
The sensor can be attached to the dew shield with Velcro fastener
