The QHY174MGPS is an advanced scientific CMOS cameras equipped with a high-precision GPS timing module, making them ideal for time-critical imaging applications such as occultation, meteor detection, and high-speed astrophotography. These models combine Sony IMX174 global shutter sensor with GPS-synchronized exposure timestamping accurate to 1 µs.
The equipped global shutter, unlike the common rolling shutter technology used in most CMOS cameras, guarantees a uniform exposure for the whole image area, beginning and ending at exactly the same time. This type of shutter is used to generate undistorted images in high precision applications, specially when the subjects are high speed moving objects and there is atmospheric agitation.
The QHY174MGPS features a monochrome sensor, perfect for research-grade applications requiring maximum sensitivity and flexibility in filter use.
Both versions support high frame rates, low read noise, and large full well capacity, with real-time timestamp encoding embedded directly in the image stream — essential for applications where precision timing is critical.
The QHY174MGPS has 2 working modes:
- Master Mode: the camera runs free with the internal 10MHz GPS synced clock measuring and recording the shutter's opening and closing time.
- Slave Mode: both the target start time and the interval between two frames can be set to achieve full synchronization between multiple cameras.
The time stamp and the GPS information are embedded into the image, so it will never be lost as long as you keep the original image.
