William Optics

The William Optics Flat61 is an apochromatic 1x field flattener for the Zenithstar 61. The 43mm image circle makes it a good match for full-frame sensors

The Flat61 features adjustable spacing for use with a range of cameras and imaging systems. The Flat61 includes an M48 filter thread which will hold any standard 2" mounted filter. It also includes a handy camera rotator for precise framing of targets.

Compatible with William Optics Z61 which has an M54 x 0.75 thread. On the camera side there is an M48 x 0.75 male thread, which will accept any wide T-ring (sold separately).

Note: As this is an adjustable flattener, you must adjust the distance for your specific telescope. See the Instructions tab above.

Essential bit of kit

I've been using this with a Z61 and it does a great job of giving me sharp stars right to the edge. I adjusted it to the recommended setting (easy to do) and haven't felt the need to move it from there. It would probably work with a wide range of scopes if you can organise the right adapters. I was previously using an Orion FF, but the lack of adjustability meant unsatisfactory results with the Z61. The big bonus with this flattener is the ability to loosen the adjustment screw and adjust the angle of the camera - particularly as the Z61's focusser does not rotate. All threads and anodizing appear very good quality and it also makes the Z61 excellent for daytime snaps too. Horsehead nebula is 7 x 3minute shots at iso 1600 / Pentax K50.
