The SkyWatcher 200 Quattro is a Newtonian telescope with the super fast focal ratio of f/4. If compared with a f/5 telescope, the photographic exposure with a f/4 system is 40% shorter, making it a great time saver. This instrument is ideal for astrophotography and it will deliver sharp images across a large flat field when used with the SkyWatcher aplanatic coma corrector.

The 2" Crayford focuser is solid, precise and backlash free. It operates at two speeds due to the 10:1 reduction mechanism for an extra fine focusing adjustment, which is paramount for astrophotography and high resolution observations.

The secondary mirror is oversized in order to have a fully illuminated field and to avoid any vignetting. It is collimable by using 3 grub screws and the offset can be adjusted by using the central spring loaded screw.

The primary mirror sits on a 9 points cell and is collimable with 3 pairs of push & pull screws.

Both mirrors are made in borosilicate glass which have low thermal expansion coefficient. That means that the precise optical surfaces of the mirrors remain the same while the glass will cool down.

The aluminium tube is internally blackened to avoid internal reflection, enhance contrast and to absorb stray light.

    Requires some tweaking, but

Very happy with the quality of my images with the matched aplanar corrector from SkyWatcher. The tube happily sits on my belt modded HEQ5. But there are a few rough edges you'll want to smooth out if you want to use it for imaging:

The matched corrector has a working distance of 53.66mm, so some additional spacer purchases may be required depending on what you have available if you go with this corrector.

If you are imaging from a suburban location with bright light sources around, a lot of that light will bleed into the tube behind the primary mirror causing artefacts in your subframes. I've blocked it off with a black beanie, and that seems to work well enough.

The manufacturing tolerances on the focuser are not great. There's a flat spot on the draw tube where the focuser is supposed to interface with it and apply pressure, but its has a slight concave shape on the one I received. It will only grip on the edges of this flat spot without modification (sanding it down, or an upgrade). As a result it just barely held all of my imaging equipment without slippage before modification.

Finally the collimation springs are quite weak. I found that sturdier springs make it hold collimation much better.

Overall quite happy with the purchase.
