The QHY550P/M is a high-performance scientific camera featuring the renowned Sony IMX250 with Global Shutter CMOS sensor, enhanced with a four-direction polariser array embedded at the pixel level.

This polarised monochrome version delivers enriched imaging capabilities, capturing polarised information in one shot without the need for rotating filters—ideal for time-sensitive and precision-critical applications.

Equipped with a built-in dual-stage TEC cooler, the QHY550P can reduce sensor temperatures by up to −35 °C below ambient, significantly minimizing dark current and elevating sensitivity to the faintest polarisation nuances. This capability is invaluable for researchers and professionals working in fields such as astronomy, life sciences, optical laboratories, and material studies, where polarised light reveals hidden structures and details.

The camera boasts a 2/3-inch, 5.0‑megapixel sensor (2464 × 2056 pixels, 3.45 µm pitch), an AR-coated optical window, and an anti-dew heater, ensuring pristine imaging even under challenging environmental conditions. The global shutter design eliminates motion distortion and atmospheric artifacts, delivering sharp and precise frames ideal for scientific analysis.

Since the polariser is formed during the semiconductor process, form and formulation of polariser, uniformity, mass productivity and durability are excellent compared to conventional polarisation sensors. Furthermore, The polarised sensor is covered with an anti-reflection layer which helps to reduce reflectance and avoids flaring and ghosting.
