The Observable Space (PlaneWave) FSCT8 f/2.8 is a compact widefield astrograph designed for a broad range of applications including Space Situational Awareness (SSA), Space Domain Awareness (SDA), professional astronomy research and deep sky astrophotography.

 

 

Utilizing an innovative catadioptric design with built-in Schmidt corrector plate and field-flattening optics at the focal plane, the FSCT8 offers a fast f/2.8 focal ratio, 568mm focal length and 42mm image circle. Optical performance is exceptional with 3.6 micron RMS on-axis, 6.0 micron RMS at 16mm off-axis and 6.4 micron RMS at 21mm off-axis.

The rock-solid fused silica mirrors, carbon fibre construction and light weight of ~9kg without accessories make the FSCT8 a perfect match for a wide variety of equatorial and Alt-Az mounts.

Being a fast 8" imaging system, the FSCT8 excels at short-exposure, high-SNR captures of large sky areas. This makes the telescope well suited for deep-sky imaging, survey work, and wide-field astronomical applications where speed, field coverage, and optical consistency matter.

Collimation is extremely straightforward, needing only simple adjustment of the three secondary mirror collimation screws. An integrated corrector plate heater keeps moisture at bay, with an optional external front dew shield available for further protection.

The integrated focuser provides 12.7mm of fine-focusing travel, with a generous backfocus distance of 70.79mm from the full-in position. Without the focuser, the telescope provides 100mm of backfocus from the backplate.
