The OUTPOST 3M from PrimaLuceLab is a 3-metre professional clamshell observatory dome which offers a complete 180° full sky view. 

Made of multi-layer GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) with anodized aluminium and stainless steel components, the OUTPOST 3M offers tremendous rigidity and durability, ensuring long-term stability in demanding environments. Every element of the dome is designed for long-term outdoor operation and stability, with particular attention to mechanical alignment and environmental exposure. 

Unlike traditional observatory domes that require synchronization between the telescope and the dome shutter, OUTPOST 3M opens completely, giving telescopes unrestricted access to the entire sky. This makes it ideal for applications such as astronomy research, satellite tracking, space situational awareness (SSA), space domain awareness (SDA), free-space optical communication (FSOC), atmospheric detectors and defense.

The OUTPOST 3M is equipped with custom-designed industrial-grade electronics by PrimaLuceLab which guarantee maximum safety and instrument protection. The control unit is housed in an IP66 certified enclosure, ensuring protection against dust and water ingress, essential for remote and unattended installations.

Thanks to the autonomous safety logic, the dome will automatically close if external power is lost, even when not connected to any control software (as long as it is powered by a separate backup UPS, not included with the dome). 

Optional rain and wind sensors can be utilized, which will allow the dome to automatically close when rain or high winds are detected, independent of control software, protecting the instruments from sudden weather changes.

The OUTPOST 3M is supplied with a dedicated ASCOM driver, allowing you full remote control from any astronomy software that supports ASCOM dome control. The dome can be connected to your imaging system via USB or Ethernet, and integrates natively with EAGLE computers.

An integrated technical bay allows you to house essential observatory infrastructure such as power distribution systems, networking equipment, control cabinets and UPS systems. The compartment is also capable of accommodating standard 19" rack cabinets up to 12U.

Special attention has been given to the closure interface between the dome segments. This has been carefully engineered to improve protection in the most exposed junction area of the structure. The reinforced contact geometry enhances closure at the meeting point of the segments, contributing to increased instrument protection during adverse weather conditions.

The OUTPOST 3M is equipped with high-speed motors and advanced remote-control electronics to ensure rapid opening and closing of the dome, minimizing target acquisition time. Additionally, the motors, drive components and control electronics have been designed and positioned to provide the maximum possible usable internal space, allowing the installation of larger telescope systems.
