The QHY163M Kit 2 includes the following items:
- cooled monochrome CMOS camera
- Ultra Slim 7 x 1.25 "/7 x 31mm motorized filter wheel
The QHY 163M Pro is a cooled monochrome camera that contains the Aptina MN34230. It has a medium size 16 Mpx sensor with a diagonal of 22.2mm. The pixels have a size of 3.8 µm which is an excellent value for telescopes with different focal lengths.
This camera has a two-stage TEC cooling system that brings the temperature of the sensor 35/40C° below ambient for low noise imaging, even in warm climates. The QHY 163M has zero amplifier glow no matter how long the exposure is.
The QHY 163M employs a full anti-dew technology for both CCD sensor cover glass and the sensor chamber optical window. In order to avoid halos around bright stars, the QHY 163M has an AR coated optical window on both sides rather than the common IR/UV cut window. The QHY CFW3 Small is a motorized filter wheel designed for 7 filters with a size of 1.25" and 7 unmounted filters with a diameter of 31mm.
It uses a high quality ultra-thin hybrid stepper motor that compared to standard electrical motors, is more precise as it has a smaller stepper angle. The motor is enclosed to prevent dust from entering, thus improving reliability and the durability of the motor. The QHYCFW3 main body is CNC machined from a single piece of aluminium, sandblasted and anodized for a high quality finish.
All the QHY filter wheels have a female dovetail ring for the QHY cameras. Under this removable ring the CFW3 Small filter wheel has a standard M42 x 0.75 female connection. The Optolong LRGB 1.25" filters are specially designed for deep space photography with monochrome cameras. The strict manufacturing process and the quality control guarantees a tight tolerance of the filter thickness (± 0.05mm) which makes these filters parfocal.
Each filter is fully multi-coated to minimise internal reflections, halos around stars and to assure a high transmission which is above 95%. Each filter cuts off the ultraviolet and infrared light so there is no need to use the L filter in combination with the colour filters.
The design of these filters is optimised to cut out the typical yellow emission of the sodium and mercury lamps around 589nm.
The Optolong H-Alpha narrow-band filter boosts the contrast of emission nebulae and supernova remnants for professional results, even under a bright sky affected by light pollution. This filter is used in combination with the OIII and SII filter to compose a narrowband colour image.
The 7nm band pass is only 2% of the entire visible spectrum, increasing the signal to noise ratio and delivering high contrast images and extremely dark backgrounds.
The maximum transmission of the Hydrogen Alpha line (656.3 nm) is above 80% and the transmission off band is only 0.1%. This is a value often undisclosed by other filter producers and it is critical to darken the sky background and minimise the halos around the stars.
