The ZWO ASI 178MC is a professional colour planetary camera with small pixels and a resolution of 6.4 MPx. This combination makes the ASI 178MC ideal for high resolution imaging of the moon and the sun with medium focal length telescopes.


The ZWO ASI 178MC contains the Sony IMX178 with SONY STARVIS and Exmor R Technology.

The back illuminated sensor reaches a QE peak of 81% with a sensitivity across all the visible light as well as in infrared and part of the ultraviolet between 300 Nm and 400 Nm.

The USB 3.0 Port provides 5Gbps bandwidth and lets the camera run at 30fps (14bit, normal mode) or 60fps (10bit, high speed mode) at full resolution (6.4Mega). For planets that cover a small area of the sensor, the fps can be increased to more than 250 per second by selecting a small ROI (region of interest). Frame rate can be limited by the power of the computer and the writing speed of your hard disk. For higher performance it is suggested to use Solid State Drives. 

This camera is equipped with a ST4 port as guiding alternative.
